Poetry Competition Shortlist: “The Minotaur”

Adelais Mills

The Minotaur

Once more into the mute straits of chance,

the skein bound sullen

pulling from his hand,

and his vision collapsed

This operation is called ‘paperclip’

to the Kentucky corn , a brittle circumflex,

an Anasazi sun calendar.

Shorn stubble resists, snaps beneath his city shoes;

fleet-footed bureaucrat in a black Armani suit

forgets his algorithm, goes left.

Can the crawling creature create

Apocalypse means revelation

crawling in the dark?

Absence hollows the centre

but believing is easy.

Adelais Mills was shortlisted for the Oxonian Review Poetry Competition 2013.
